Electronics Recycling

electronics recyclingElectronic products are the fastest growing portion of the solid waste stream. In 2007, 3.0 million tons of electronic products became obsolete yet only 14% of those products were actually recycled. Many of these electronic products contain lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, and other materials that pose environmental and health risks that must be managed.

The good news is that many obsolete electronic products can be recycled or refurbished for reuse and then returned to the economic mainstream in the form of raw materials or products. Electronic products contain metals and plastics that have resale value. The reuse of these components conserves natural resources and energy, and the reuse also reduces air and water pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and our carbon footprint.
